So, whats in your Opinion the best GM soundfont available? I am not sure if it even belongs into these Forums, neither am i sure if this hasn't been asked before and discussed through serveral times but iam going to ask it anyway. So whats in your opinion the best available GM SoundFont (.sf2)? Iam right now searching for a suitable one for my midi files, preferably ones that you can load into the Memory with the ' Creative SoundFont Bank Manager' ( which means max. About 250-300 MB) but iam open for any that need some 3rd party tool, too. To date i tested Fluid R3, several free ones that i cant remember, and two commercial ones too - Papelmedia GM 2006 ( dont have 2007, so i dont know if thats any better ) and the Sonivox GM250 one, and ofcourse the good old CT2(4,8)MGM. From those i tested i would say the Papelmedia ones the best, most realistic, but they got weak Piano Sets ( my opinion ) I am not sure if SoundFont's are still ' in', does anyone care about them anyways anymore?
Well i certainly do, so i hope some of you guys got some treasures which will make me happy in my pants. Thanks in advance! I can't hear any difference, but only tested 'Beneath a Steel Sky' and 'The Secret of Monkey Island' so far; from the little information I can found, it looks like I can only load.dls banks, but not SoundFonts on the software synthetizer. I'm downloading a dls bank to try next and try with a bunch of midi files I found on a old backup.
EDIT: I can play midi files using SF2 banks with SynthFont, and the difference it's amazing:approval. Now i have to find a way to convert the SF2 file to DLS 2, to make it the default soundbank and replace the gm.dls file from Windows. EDIT 2: finally converted some SF2 banks to DSL, I'll test later to see how it works, meanwhile, winamp has a few problems with some midi files, some instruments are replaced with the piano, especially when listening to Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygen 4 and Second Rendezvous.:bang.
These are mostly high quality soundfonts (*.sf2) compatible with BS-16i and a few other apps. These are currently compressed (rar), but don't worry the entire process can still be done on an iPad only. Simply download the files you would like from Dropbox, then 'Open In.'
Feb 11, 2008. So whats in your opinion the best available GM SoundFont (.sf2)? An app like GoodReader, extract (unzip) the file exposing the.sf2 file, then 'Open In.' BS-16i or a compatible program.
The process can be simpler if you copy the download link and paste it into GoodReader's download manager, this eliminates use of a browser and a few steps. Please note and credit the makers of Evanessence 2 (KVR forum) and Saint James Orchestra (and a few unknowns) for these high quality instruments and Viena SoundFont Editor for a great program. I simply took the best and most desirable files and compiled them into a few separate soundfonts. As with anything there may be a few 'duds' but most should be great. (compressed/uncompressed) (193/341mb) (168/297mb) (86/273mb) (121/271mb) (70/199mb) (12/25mb) (15/25mb) Roland SC-55 is a great all-around soundfont only 25 mb and has a ton of instruments loaded with quality and variety 44mb & 40mb This is two separate soundfonts zipped into one file.
Guitarded is a lot of guitars and is 44mb and Orchestrated is a ton of pretty good (mostly Saint James Orchestra) orchestra instruments. Both have a small memory footprint. Network Connect 7.1.0 Free Download.
Size doesn't always matter with soundfonts (haha); Roland SC-55, Guitarded, and Orchestrated all take up minimal space while providing great quality and variety. Let me know if you have any issues with files, links, etc.Profit! After further investigation a lot of those apps don't actually use them, they made load them but you don't have access to or see them which means they take up space for no reason, others attempted to load it and gave an error saying 'unable to load audio file', so they see it as an audio file. Just got a cool idea for Gestrument. It'd be cool to put together a soundfont (like Orchestrated) with select different types of instruments like Piano, Guitar, and Bass and see what it comes up with. It's a really cool app!
