Lots of other people are reporting Microsoft Mail App problems. Notifications not working, live tile not displaying, no sound notification and email arriving very late. I have gone thru every Mail App setting in Windows 10 more than once. I have been involved in Mail App posts on Microsoft Community forums, adding up the other people who post or click 'ME TOO' I come up with 30 people currently having these problems. I do not know how many of them have Norton. Here is what I have done.
I permanently disabled my Norton Firewall. Then I restarted my computer and checked CONTROL PANEL >WINDOWS FIREWALL it was ON. Now my Microsoft Mail App WORKS PERFECTLY.
Live tile, sounds, notifications and speedy email. It is easy for me to test this because I have 5 email accounts and can send myself emails. I hope Norton is working on a HOTFIX. Hi Mohan_G, I have been in communication with someone that has Norton Security Suite 22.5.2.15 and turning off his firewall did not improve his email app notifications. Working together we have both verified that the Microsoft Update (KB3081424), released on Thursday 8/6/2015, HAS SOLVED our Mail App notification problems. The Update is a large Update which in past versions of Windows might be called a Service Pack.
In Windows 10 this type of Update is called a 'Cumulative Update'. For more information on the KB3081424 update click on this link.. I have GOOD NEWS for you. And bad news for me. The Update did not fix my Mail App problems.
I am firmly convinced that Norton did not ever play a role in the problems I experienced. My firewall thing was just something that temporarily helped my situation. (it was just a quirk) I have found the correct Mail App threads in Microsoft's Forum, as of right now Windows 10 has been released for 10 days. There are 340 threads complaining about the Mail App. That is 17 pages of complaints with 20 complaints per page. (not all of them have Norton).
If anyone else posts about this subject have them read my thread, if they need to read more here is a link to page 1 of 17. Sorry if I caused any problem. Roger, You came to the right place. Below are 2 images, the first image below is of my 'Reliability History (Monitor)' to get there TYPE - 'Reliability' in the search box on the left side of your taskbar & click on the top item.
First I clicked on the day above the green arrow (click on several days and look around). Notice the red arrows which indicate a failed 'Mail & Calendar' update then 6 hours later a successful 'Mail & Calendar' update. The reason I started this way is this Mail & Calendar update does not show up in my Windows update History (I am still working on why not). Now to check your Windows Update History ( when I use ' >' it means click on the next item). Click on Settings >Update & Security >Windows Update >Advanced Options >View your Update History. This is the second image below. I am convinced that KB3081424 does not fix the Mail App problems by itself, some have reported good results after it is installed, some after the Mail & Calendar update.
Currently I am still having problems. I am convinced that the Norton Firewall was a QUIRK and NORTON is in no way responsible for the mail app problems. I have two links for you, the first is to Microsoft Community Forum. The link takes you to threads about (mostly) Mail App problems in Windows 10.
There are currently 21 pages with 20 complaints per page (420 complaints total). I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW YOU ARE NOT ALONE. The second link shows you how to use 'System file check (SFC) Scan and Repair System Files'. Hopefully sfc /scannow will not find any problems.
If you get the message 'Sfc /scannow found corrupt files but could not fix them'. Stop there and reply to me. In Windows 8.1 I could fix this problem but have not been able to do that in Windows 10. In the past sfc /scannow has sometimes had false corrupt file results.
Right now my scan found corrupt files but my computer is working fine except the mail app. SFC is very safe to use and is a very basic test. Hi guys, My best plan at this point is to uninstall Norton and Malwarebytes, allow Windows Defender to protect my computer. I do not have a lot of files so I will copy them to my external hard drive. The only hang up I have is my bookmarks, but I will figure that out. THEN I AM GOING TO DO A CLEAN INSTALL OF WINDOWS 10 maybe by tomorrow? Last I will add Norton and all other software back into my computer.
I don't know what else to do.I agree the issue is in sync because the only way I get mail is to open the Mail App and click on SYNC. I have read on tenfourms that creating an exception in FIREWALL rules can make your computer vulnerable to malware and viruses. Just want everyone to know I have tried turning Norton Firewall completely OFF several times (Windows Firewall comes on right after a restart.
It makes no difference on or off my mail app does not work. Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell Pdf Free Download. Some software tells you to disable your Anti-Virus when installing. I think Windows 10 was corrupted when I installed with Norton or MBAM installed. So I want to do a clean install with Norton and MBAM completely removed.
Later I will reinstall. Think about this not everyone on Microsoft Community forum that has a mail app problem HAS NORTON. Yeaaaa, well, I give up. Sfc has nothing.
Microsoft has nothing. I have updated 6 computers here. The 3 with Norton don't sync, the ones with Defender are fine.
That says it all. The Mail app is no big deal, I can use a browser to log in. But it is handier in some ways. The latest 360 update isn't stopping the spam as well as the previous version and it has been 'retraining' for the last several days and that is a pain in the. I am not going to bother with fixing the mail thing as it is just wasting my time. Thanks for everyone's help.
