The ultimate mirroring tool for Illustrator, technically and creatively enhance your artwork with live functionality in order to quickly create the result you need. MIRRORME is made up of two functions via a simple panel interface and MirrorMe tool; Apply to Layer for active drawing, particularly useful to draw faces / patterns / fractal and kaleidoscope effects. The second being Apply to Selection enabling you to mirror existing artwork, allowing you to recycle artwork elements into new designs and patterns within seconds. This will become an essential part of your daily vector design workflow. It’s saving me more time—I now often only draw one half of an object, while MirrorMe automatically creates the other half. Then I turn off MirrorMe and gently edit the paths with InkScribe, WidthScribe, etc., if I want to remove the appearance of automation.

That’s still a lot faster than drawing the entire object without MirrorMe’s assistance. I can’t imagine working without it! It was when I decided to try it as a regular drawing tool that I discovered it spared me often the time of trying to get an entire object drawn, making the tool more of a part of a vector workflow than I expected •. When I first started using this tool it amazed me. It took a lot of work and automated it saving hours upon hours of work. Problems only started to happen after using gradients and the masking transparency options. I’m not sure what behind the scene calculations are at work, but after making changes and updating the scene a couple times the file size ballooned.
What would’ve taken me many hours to do before took only 2 hours, but in return it increased my filesize to over 160 megabytes. I couldn’t believe it so i mimicked the condition with a simple scene and just moved the object mirror around a couple times and updated the scene with each move. After about 10 updates it saved what would normally be a 1 megabyte file turned into an 80 megabyte files. This plugin is amazing for what it does, but until it is fully optimized limit how many times you update your scene, otherwise the filesize will blow up and eventually not load. What would make this plugin perfect would be if there was a way to dump old file information, if not the file will just keep getting bigger. Hi Jeremy – this is an interesting point. You are correct that our tools can vastly increase artwork file sizes with only a few clicks.

Even though all our plug-ins are at pains to construct objects in a standard Illustrator manner, by allowing users to work so quickly, it also results in a vast amount of graphic work being created/placed in an instant. If you were to do many of these tool’s operations by hand, it would take days and you rightly expect file size to be proportional. In the office we’ve now hit a “real world” workflow file size in excess of 2Gb. Normally I would consider this completely unacceptable, but when I started to examine the detail and contents, I realised it was actually justified for that situation.
Amazingly, Illustrator coped with it easily (Retina iMac). However, I believe every user should have a good idea of what an acceptable file size is for the environment/workflow in which they are working. To help with this, please refer to our very popular blog post •. I have to say, I believe MirrorMe is the best add-on to Illustrator that I have had to pleasure to use.
For technical illustrations, it is an efficient and great time saver. It took a number of “outings” to feel comfortable with how it works (“Apply to Selection” vs. “Apply to Layer”). It’s not really a steep learning curve, but, now that I “get it,” I would hate to work without it being part of my Illustrator arsenal. This is one of several Astute Graphics add-ons that I own.
THANK YOU, you guys at Astute Graphics for you fabulous products!!!
